Condolences — Newsletter for 11/19/08 Fitness, Running, Exercise, Life Coaching

Wednesday, Nov. 19th 2008 2:24 PM

Our deepest condolences are extended to Louis Glazer and his family in the loss of his father, Mr. Herbert Glazer.

Mr. Glazer passed away last week after a brief illness, the day after his 93rd birthday. He was a very prominent and well respected attorney as well as a community leader here in Memphis.

I was never privileged to have known Mr. Glazer, but I learned a lot about him as I listened to his Rabbi deliver the eulogy. He had lived a most colorful and larger than life LIFE! In addition to being a local icon in Memphis Law, he was also a community advocate and a key leader at his Temple. His distinguished role in our community was evidenced by the standing room only funeral service, attended by some of the most respected and influential leaders in our city.

I also learned from one of you that he enjoyed giving out treats of vanilla wafers!

Mr. Glazer served in Europe during World War II and was among the American troops who entered the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, Germany, on May 1, 1945. What an unbelievably moving and emotional experience that must have been for an American Jewish soldier to help liberate his imprisoned European Jewish brothers and sisters who’d survived the atrocities of the Holocaust.

Most of you will know Louis. He manages to attend a part of most every Boot Camp class at least once a week and can be seen marching to his own drummer during the class. (Or he can be seen just wandering off.) And though I didn’t know Louis’ father, his Rabbi’s words of praise and the complimentary adjectives used to describe Mr. Glazer could have been used to describe his son. I could see Louis in the colorful words that were used to describe his father. What a wonderful thing! The fruit didn’t fall far from the tree.

At 93 years old, Mr. Glazer’s was a life well lived. As I walked to my car following the service I thought about my own life and imagined what might be said of me when I’m dismissed from the Quarterdeck for the last time. Is mine a life well lived? Is yours? Would we live differently today if we knew that we only had 5 years left to live? 1 year? 1 week? Are we waiting for “some day” to finally do that “some thing?”

Would that each or our lives be described in the way that Mr. Herbert Glazer’s was.

HELP WANTED

Do you know of someone who could be another Sergeant Tony?

I’m looking to expand the empire beyond Memphis. Les Bonnett successfully launched USMC Fitness BOOT CAMP — Collierville in July and is doing great!

I’d especially like to move into north Mississippi or northern Shelby County. Like Hernando or Millington!

Here’s a little of what I’m looking for in a prospective “Sergeant Tony.”
* Former military, preferably a Marine.
* College degree, or working toward it.
* Exercise certification, military or civilian, or working toward it.
* Personally interested and involved in a lifestyle of fitness and athletics.
* Good communication skills, written and oral. (I answer about 40 emails a day, write a newsletter, and answer more than a half dozen or so daily Boot Camp related phone calls)
* Outgoing personality with a GREAT sense of humor!
* Genuinely likes people, hiding behind a sadistic facade.
* Humble, modest, caring, and sensitive (ok, ok, whatever) You get the idea.

If you know of someone who would be a good fit, please forward this on to them and direct them to the website:www .usmcfitnessbootcamp.com
