Well, we’re changing too!
This year USMC Fitness BOOT CAMP, and more specifically your beloved and most humble servant, Sgt. Tony, will branch out into new ways to extend the benefits of health, fitness, and life transformation beyond the programs we’ve offered to date. Don’t worry. Nothing will change for YOU! All classes and locations remain the same.
Let me explain what I’m up to.
I’ve been inspired by my wife, my pastor, a reality TV show, and Forbes magazine to do something NEW!
According to a recent Forbes magazine article, Memphis, Tennessee is the fattest, most obese, most sedentary city in the country. YES!! Way to go Bluff City!
We don’t rock … we roll … or is it that “we’ve got rolls.”
This past Sunday, Craig Strickland, senior pastor at Hope Presbyterian Church, took that a step further. “If America is the fattest country in the world, ” he said, “and Memphis is the fattest city in America, that makes MEMPHIS THE FATTEST CITY IN THE WORLD!” (Emphasis is mine)
OMG!!!!
Then there’s that TV show … The Biggest Loser. You’ll remember I wrote about it last week.
So here’s what’s going to happen. One of the things that I’ll do this year is to help people lacking in self-discipline to become victorious over themselves first; the first step in being “great in two thousand EIGHT!”
But these won’t be just any people lacking in self-discipline and needing to transform their lives. These will be specially selected recruits, a special group of only 10 people … people who might be members of your own family, a co-worker, or a friend might be one of those 10.
And YOU will help me find these new recruits because YOU also want them to reclaim their lives!
These recruits, who must be at least 50 pounds over their ideal weight, will be the first participants in …

Interviews will be conducted during the week following with selected recruits announced on February 1. I’ll have flyers for you to take to work to give to co-workers or leave in a break room. Pass them on to your company for their weekly newsletter or HR office.
Changing ten people won’t change Memphis, and it won’t change the world, but it will change their world!

JUMP START YOUR POST HOLIDAY WEIGHT LOSS
Eat a lot during the holidays? Porked up, did ya? Put on your “winter coat”?
Here’s a jump start weight loss tip. Before I tell you this tip, let me give you this disclaimer: I don’t believe in diets. They don’t work. None of ‘em do. But occasionally we need to make a short term alteration in our eating to make up for the short term gluttony you participated in last month.
So here’s a short term approach to attack that short term mistake.
First, a little math: multiply your weight times 7. That’s how many calories you should be restricting yourself to in order to lose weight, NOT TO GO UNDER 1000 CALORIES.
Second, here’s the no nonsense SHORT TERM plan. Have a Slim Fast (or similar product, restricted in calories), have a Slim Fast for lunch, and a Lean Cuisine (or similar product, restricted in calories). That will give you about 700 calories. Then you can fill in the rest with healthy snack choices like carrots, bananas, oranges, tuna, apples, etc.
Don’t forget to take your vitamins during this little experiment! They’re really important during this time.
Here’s the time frame. You can try this on alternate days; you can do this Monday through Friday; you can do this for a whole week; you can do this for 10 days. Any combination that works for you will be fine.
Give this a try if you need that jump start to counter your holiday gluttony. Let me know if this helps!
