HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINE CORPS!

Tomorrow, November 10, is the 232nd Birthday of the United States Marine Corps!
oooooorraaaaaaaaaah!!! (”ewwwwwwwww raaaaaaaaaaaah”)
Marines are Marines forever, by the way!
And I mean FOREVER!
No other branch of the armed services has a brotherhood and a sense of esprit de corps, like we do. And while I’m on the subject, we are never ever referred to as “EX” Marines … ever! If you wanna start a fight, call one of us, not currently on active duty, an ex-Marine!
“Marine” is a title that we earned! In fact, did you know that “Marine” is always capitalized? Soldier, sailor, and all of the other military service’s names are lower case. And while I’m at it, don’t refer to a Marine as a “soldier.” Soldiers are Army.
One of the proudest days of my life was the day I graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp and my Senior Drill Instructor shook my hand and said to me, “Congratulations MARINE.” And the emblem of the Marine Corps, the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor was placed in my hand.

So … what can you do to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday? You could run the 5K in Millington that honor’s fallen Marine Lance Corporal Tim Creager. www.timcreager5k.com

OR …

You could buy a Marine (and you all know one!) a beer … or dinner … or both … and shower that Marine with gifts and praise … and cake! That’s a good start!

TRAINING IRAQIS

Now, here’s a little something for you. I give you guys a hard time about your pitiful side straddle hops. However … you all ROCK by comparison! Enjoy!!

WELCOME HOME JEFF LUDLOW!

My nephew, Jeff, returned safe and sound on Monday night from his second and LAST tour of duty in Iraq. Thank God! And thank you for your prayers. Many of you have been praying for Jeff for the past 4 years. During his 4 years in the military, he spent 29 months (over 2 years) in Iraq. He will be moving to Dallas to pursue his degree in medicine. Well done Jeff, and welcome home!

HALF MARATHON TRAINING ON SATURDAY! (You can come and get your one hour of cardio!)

Greetings all of you half marathoners! OK, we were going to run at the U of M on Saturday, but I’ve been bribed! So, we’ll be back at Shelby Farms on Saturday, at 8 AM for our 1 hour and 45 minutes. We’ll use the same format as before.

OK, Elizabeth … you can’t back out of the deal now! ;-)

ASSISTANT DRILL INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Several of you have asked about becoming a “Richard” (Referring to Staff Sergeant “Richard” Bourland, my 0530 class assistant and right hand man).

Others of you have been thinking about it and not said anything. Others of you just ought to do it!

The first training session will be tomorrow, November 10, from 12:30 to 1:30 at the McAlister’s on Mendenhall. This will be an information meeting. You’re welcome to eat lunch with me. So, there won’t be any “actual” training. So, don’t get nervous.

Minimum requirement is: One year of continuous Boot Camp (Rank of Lance Corporal)

Open to all Boot Campers, male or female!

There are benefits to this gig, besides the obvious fame, so come on out.

“Ain’t no love in the heart of the city … ” Jay Z’s version is pretty good, but Bobby Blue Bland’s is a classic. (You might recognize this song in the trailer for “American Gangster.”) And speaking of Blue …

This from my friend, JR Kamra

THE INAUGURAL TRUE BLUE 5K AT THE U of M

The first annual True Blue 5K will be at the U of M campus on Friday November 16 at 7 PM. This is a 5K for U of M alumni, students, friends, and all runners! The course will be through the campus with a post-race celebration for all! http://www.trueblue5k.racesonline.com/

And speaking of “Ain’t no love …”

DON’T SAVE THE DATE

Since Tuesday’s email, I’ve gotten a LOT of kidding, a LOT of grief, ribbing, razzing, and good natured fun poked at me for my very public declaration of love. Several of you have asked when the wedding is and where are we going for our honeymoon, etc, etc. Some have high fived me, others have called me a romantic, and a few of you cynics have labeled me a soft hearted wussy boy. One of you (Walker Hayes) even asked if he could bring a couch to Boot Camp so that I could jump up and down on it, with apologies to Tom Cruise. ;-)

ha ha ha … very funny.

If only some of you clowns would work that hard on your push ups!

Anyway, the feelings I declared on Tuesday are unrequited and she’s moving away from Memphis at the end of the month.

So let’s have a contest.

The first person to guess the song by YES that applies to this situation gets a free month of Boot Camp! Hint: It’s not Tales From Topographic Oceans!

2007 HOLIDAY CHALLENGE!

That’s right!
It’s time again! Time for the holiday challenge!
The challenge begins on Wednesday, November 21.
What is this holiday challenge?

Stay tuned … I’ll tell you next week!!

——————————–

And now, back by popular demand: Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy

“If you lose your job, your marriage and your mind all in the same week,
try to lose your mind first,
because then the other stuff won’t matter much.”

God bless you all … have a GREAT weekend and don’t forget your one hour of CONTINUOUS cardio!
