EXTRA EXTRA * * * NEW YORK CITY MARATHON NEWS!!! * * * EXTRA EXTRA

First of all, a GREAT BIG thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU to each of you who made such awesome and generous donations to Team for Kids! Let me express my deepest appreciation for your additional support through your prayers, phone calls, text messages, and emails!! Thanks everyone!

Second, did I finish the marathon?
YES!
All 26.2 miles of it … through all five boroughs of New York City, crossing five different bridges and finishing in Central Park!
How was it?
It was absolutely one of the most meaningful experiences of my life … wonderful, physical, spiritual. I was privileged to run the marathon with the woman I love, Wendy Greenlaw, who also ran in support of Team for Kids! I can’t begin to tell you how personally sacred this experience was for me, from start to finish. Quite honestly, I didn’t want it to end. I pray that you all might have such days in your life. Wendy and I encouraged one another and helped one another every step of the way … for every one of those 26.2 miles! … kind of like a metaphor for life. AND, we beat Katie Holmes (aka Mrs. Tom Cruise) in the process … so take THAT Mav! Apparently Katie did not feel the need, the need for speed!

How do I feel today?
My legs are sore and I’m moving around like a 90 year old man with a rock in his shoe! To add insult to injury, many 0530 Boot Campers made fun of me this morning and laughed at my moaning and groaning. Apparently they took some kind of twisted pleasure in my pain and misery! (Stand by … you guys will pay for that!)

Let me say once again to you all … thank you so very very much for your support.

And Wendy, I can’t begin to thank you enough. I couldn’t have done it without you! You’re the reason I ran … and it really was perfect.

ASSISTANT DRILL INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Several of you have asked about becoming a “Richard” (Referring to Staff Sergeant “Richard” Bourland, my 0530 class assistant and right hand man). Others of you have been thinking about it and not said anything. Others of you just ought to do it!

The first training session will be Saturday, November 10 from 12:30 to 1:30 at the McAlister’s on Mendenhall. Actually, this will be an information meeting. There will be no “actual” training. So, don’t get nervous.

Minimum requirement is: One year of continuous Boot Camp (Rank of Lance Corporal)

Open to all Boot Campers, male or female!

There are benefits to this gig, besides the obvious fame, so come on out.

REQUEST FOR PRAYER

Last week I told you about the tragic murder of one of my favorite former students, Darius Truly. As best as can be determined, Darius lost his life protecting his female cousin from a man with a knife. She was wounded but will be ok.

I will be attending Darius’ funeral on Thursday morning.

I hope you will continue to remember his family in your prayers.

L/CPL TIMOTHY R. CREAGER MEMORIAL 5K RUN/WALK

Marine Lance Corporal Tim Creager was just 21 when he was killed in the Anbar Province in Iraq on July 1, 2004. Tim’s family put together an annual memorial run that supports a scholarship at Bacone College. The run is this coming Saturday, November 10 at 10 AM in Millington. Coincidentally, November 10 just happens to be the Marine Corps Birthday! How fitting is that?! Get more info at www.timcreager5k.com.

Have a GREAT Tuesday everyone!
