Sad News

Good afternoon everyone!

I wanted to pass on a few important things before the weekend.

— I regret to inform you that Lisa Holt’s father died suddenly this morning (Friday). Lisa is a 0830 Boot Camper and a friend to so many of you who know her through Boot Camp and several other connections that Lisa has in the community. She also works part time at Fleet Feet Sports. Please keep Lisa and her family in your thoughts and prayers. This is a real tough time for them.

— Secondly, I’d like to thank so many of you who’ve written me regarding this week’s newsletter. When I wrote it, I had only a few of you in mind, those who had told me about things you were facing. I knew that some of us were walking a long and difficult road, but I had no idea just how many others were on that same road. I’ve received dozens of emails sharing with me the details of their own recent struggles.

I had no idea.

Things are not always as they appear.

That’s a truth I’ve been reminded of.

Things are not always as they appear.

Let me end this email with the exchange between Delmar, Pete, and Everett with the Old Blind Seer from “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.” I think you might enjoy it and even be encouraged by it too. (If you’ve not seen this wonderful movie, you should, you should, you should!!)

Delmar: Do ya work for the railroad, grandpa?

Seer: I work … for NO MAN.

Pete: Got a name, do ya?

Seer: I have … NO NAME.

Everett: Well, that right there may be the reason you’ve had difficulty finding gainful employment. Ya see, in the mart of competitive commerce …

Seer: You seek a GREAT fortune, you three who are now in chains, you will FIND the fortune … though it will not be the fortune you seek … but first … first you must travel … a long and difficult road … a road fraught with peril … you shall see things … wonderful to tell… you shall see a cow on the roof of a cotton house … and oh so many startlements … I cannot tell you how long this road shall be … but fear not the obstacles in your path … for fate has vouchsafed your reward … though the road may wind … yea your hearts grow weary … still shall ye follow the road … even unto your salvation.

Don’t forget, one hour of cardio this weekend!

Friday evening’s workout begins at 5:30!

Have a great weekend everyone!

God bless you all.
