OCOEE RIVER TRIP DETAILS — NOW HEAR THIS, RIVER PIRATES!

Wednesday, Aug. 8th 2007 11:19 AM

YO HO, YO HO, a pirate’s life for me!

Now hear this, ye olde Ocoee River Pirates!

Our mission of plundering and pillaging the Ocoee River lay fast upon us. As members of this band of rascals, scoundrels, villains and knaves you’ll be needin’ some information and direction for this weekend, so listen up!

General Stuff:

Our trip down the river actually begins at 11:30 EASTERN STANDARD TIME on Saturday morning at our outfitter, Ocoee Outdoors. You MUST be at the outfitter no later than 11:30 EST for our safety debrief and rafting instructions. (Every year someone shows up late because they didn’t change their clocks and watches.) We’ll be back to Ocoee Outdoors at about 5:30 PM EST.

You can get directions to Ocoee Outdoors at http://www.ocoee-outdoors.com/directions.shtml

I’ll be staying at one of the hotels at exit 5 on I-75 (Shallowford Road). Exit 5 is about 45 minutes from Ocoee Outdoors. I like staying at this exit because it’s got LOTS of restaurants (including a Cracker Barrel), a mall, and fun stuff.

I’ll be leaving Memphis around noon on Friday. It’s about a six hour drive to Chattanooga. If you’d like to follow me, let me know.

Traditionally we meet at Cracker Barrel at 0800 for breakfast on Saturday morning. If you’re in the area and you’d like to meet for breakfast, just let me know by Friday night. My cell is 901-644-0145.

I’ll be spending the night Saturday and driving back to Memphis on Sunday, after a visit to the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

Your balance of $50 per person is due ASAP! I’ve already paid for the trip, so you can pay me. Cash or check works fine!

Stuff to Take:

For the rafting: swim suit, water type shoes or sandals, a quick dry type of shirt. You might also want to take a waterproof camera too. They provide all other essential gear. Each raft will be captained by a certified river guide. You will NOT be on your own!

Post rafting: I bring a bag with a towel, toiletries, and a change of clothes to Ocoee Outdoors. They have shower facilities onsite.

Post rafting dinner:

In the past those of us who are staying the night in Chattanooga on Saturday have hooked up to eat dinner together.

If you have other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
