HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEE!! — Weekly Newsletter
This will be short cuz I got LOTS of birthday to celebrate!
Thank you to those of you who’ve already showered me with much deserved cash and prizes! If YOU haven’t taken advantage of this special day to lavish me with presents and such, there’s still time!!! Don’t delay!
My birthday got off to a questionable start this morning at 0530 with about 60+ Boot Campers all wearing BLACK! And someone(s) brought black balloons, which helped to make yours truly feel “happy!” But things fell apart completely when these off key clowns attempted to sing “Happy Birthday.” (A Russian funeral dirge sung in the middle of a Moscow winter would have sounded more festive!) Thanks guys! It was sublime!
I’ve been asked how old I am today and I’m proud to say, along with Molly Shannon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCuYg0PNt2o), that I’m FIFTY! “FIFTY YEEAHS OLD!”
I’ve never had any problem with getting older. I don’t look back and wish I was younger. I don’t consider the mastery and accomplishments of my days to be in the past. People who look back, miss what’s ahead. If you focus on the rearview mirror you’ll run this thing off into the ditch.
I know people half my age who live like they’re way way older than I am chronologically. They’ve allowed themselves to decline physically through neglect, sloth, smoking, irresponsible drinking, drugs, and laziness. If they make it to 50, they’ll look like they’re 75, and act like they’re already in the grave. Sad. I mean REAL sad.
Most of you have heard or read the story of my first triathlon. If you haven’t, take a look on the blog where I’ve reposted it. (http://usmcfitnessbootcamp.com/blog/index.php) You’ll read about my encounter with a 65 year old man when I was in my early twenties.
Take care of yourself everyone! Eat right. Drink in moderation, or not at all. If you smoke, quit. Exercise intensely and regularly. Learn something new AND something old. (You should read Benjamin Franklin’s advice to a young man about the advantages of dating older women! http://www.teachingamericanhistory.org/library/index.asp?document=468)
Throw off your shackles and dismiss your self imposed limits and boundaries based on chronological age. Find new adventures, knowledge, and experiences! Don’t waste my birthday through foolishness. That’s My job!

TRIATHLON TRAINING
New training begins this Saturday at 8 o’clock. Our location will be determined on Friday. I want to use Singleton Parkway, but that might not be practical if they’re still doing road construction out there. I’ll drive there on Friday and check on it. I’ll post our location for the training on the blog after I’ve done some recon.
Newbies are welcome as we begin training for the CATS triathlon on September 16 in Conway, Arkansas.

“I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethrough
Gleams that untraveled world, whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move.
How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!
As though to breathe were life! …”
